The book was entitled “Composition #1.” The unbound work contained unnumbered pages that could be shuffled randomly like a deck of cards. The reader was encouraged to arrange the pages helter-skelter, in any order.
“From there the story will unfold,” the instructions said. The book is a striking symbol of an attitude that has taken hold in modern society: “Just arrange your activities helter-skelter, in any order, and your life story will unfold.” Alcoholism 11 For us, the Good News is that the true story of our life is not revealed in a series of random, aimless events. The good life, Jesus tells us, is revealed in the orderly process of obedience to the Will of God.
