Surrender
Illustration★★★★After a month-long siege at Y orktown, Virginia, British Commander Lord Cornwallis surrendered to the American Continental Army led by General George Washington. Cornwallis didn’t attend the surrender ceremonies. He claimed he was sick. But you can hardly blame him.
Surrendering is a galling thing. No one wants to be defeated, much less admit defeat. But admitting defeat is essential for successful Christian living.
Surrender is at the very heart of the gospel. We’re in a war, a spiri- tual war we cannot win against an enemy we cannot defeat. But when we surrender to Jesus, He lives His life in you.
When you surrender, you’re saying you’ll no longer fight God, and you want Him to take over. Surrender is the way to victory.
The point
Lord Cornwallis surrendered at Yorktown; surrender was galling because no one wants to admit defeat. Yet in Christian living, admitting defeat to Satan and surrendering to Jesus is essential—when we surrender, He takes over our life, and surrender becomes the path to victory.
