Balancing the Checkbook
IllustrationAnalogy★★★★IF YOU have a checkbook and get a bank statement whose balance doesn’t agree with yours, there is a problem. There has to be reconciliation. The only way to get that reconciliation is to find out where the problem is. You have to be able to identify why those two numbers aren’t the same and where the error is.
When bank balances don’t match, we don’t just throw up our hands and say, “It will all work out.” We work to find the error and fix it! Jesus Christ is our fix to the error of sin. He came to reconcile us to God.
He lived for thirty-three years to fulfill all righteousness and to bring us into balance with God’s righteousness. He did this for us because we could not do it for ourselves.
The point
Just as reconciling a bank statement requires identifying and fixing errors, Christ's sacrifice reconciles us to God by addressing the sin-error in our eternal account.
