The Fiery Furnace
IllustrationHistorical AccountNo matter what hardship you are going through, God does not abandon you. Over 2,500 years ago, three Jewish captives refused to bow down to a foreign idol. King Nebuchadnezzar was enraged and had them thrown into a fiery furnace that was so hot, it killed the soldiers who threw them in. As the king looked on, he suddenly jumped to his feet and exclaimed, “Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? … I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God” (Daniel 3:24, 25). Nebuchadnezzar was not imaging things. Jesus stood with His friends, and He will stand with you no matter what you face.
The point
Three Jewish captives are thrown into a fiery furnace for refusing to worship an idol, and King Nebuchadnezzar sees a fourth figure walking with them unharmed - a reminder that God does not abandon those who stay faithful under fire.
