Latimer Trained With A Crossbow

At first he was provided with a small bow adapted to his strength, and as he grew larger and stronger bigger bows were given him, till he was able to wield a man’s weapon. The scholar is trained by an adjustment of lessons to his capacity, till he reads a thousand lines of Latin more easily than he did one line at the beginning. God has adjusted our duties in the same way. All are not laid upon us at once. First the little, then the great. Having done the little duties of the Christian life faithfully, we shall be prepared for the great ones.
