Haunted by the Thought of Judgment

Story★★★★

A very stately woman who represented the age in which we live lived in a town where a big white tent was being erected. Curious about the music and the excitement, she found herself wandering into the tent see what was so interesting. It was a series of evangelistic meetings. She heard a message that evening on the judgment. The message piecred her heart like an arrow, the judgment, the judgment. But she didn’t want to hear of a judgment, she wanted nothing to do with it. I don’t want to face a judgment. I don’t want to be judged she thought to herself.

So she plunged deeper into sin. She bought her cigarettes by the carton. She went to the theatre every night. Her conscience would not let her rest. She had no peace. All she could think about was “the judgment”, “the judgment”. She laid down that night rest. Her mind was racing and would not let her relax. So she took some sleeping pills but to no avail. All she could hear was the sound of the old clock hanging on the wall down the hallway. But instead of saying tick tock, tick tock, do you know what it said, “the judgment”, “the judgment”. Oh the judgment.

The point

A woman hears an evangelistic message on judgment, tries to escape through sin and distraction, but finds no peace as her conscience and even a clock remind her of the coming judgment.
