War Of The Worlds

It was Halloween evening, 1938. As the nation’s children were busy dressing up in sheets and shouting “trick or treat,” a science fiction dramatization was taking place on CBS radio. The drama was so fantastically real that a million Easterners panicked! Orson Welles, in his resonant, convincing voice, was narrating an adaptation of H.

G. Wells, “War of the Worlds And, although four or five times during the program it was announced that it was fictional-not real, many people missed these announcements. As if actually reporting on the spot, Welles told of Martian cylinders falling over the country metal monsters as tall as skyscrapers walking in the cities, belching smoke while people died like flies, around them. Welles reported that 7,000 soldiers had been trampled to death, or burned to cinders by Martian heat rays!

And all this with sound effects so real it brought terror to those listening. One day the sky will be filled with Billions and billions beings from their heavenly city, escorting their king to planet earth
