Friendly Arms
Story★★★★A child of four was among the displaced persons that came to this country during the last war. He was an orphan whose parents had been killed in the awful bombing raids that had leveled Rotterdam. His eyes mirrored the terror he had seen. Strange and loud noises made him cringe.
Whenever, in his playtime outdoors, he heard the roar of a commercial airliner overhead, he would run hysterically for the nearest cellar. But gradually, through kindness and patience, his new foster parents taught him to run not to cellar doors but to them when he heard the ominous roar of airplane motors.
And in those friendly arms he soon found that there was nothing to fear. Humanity still runs for shelter to the cellars of life. Like Peter of old, men should learn to call out in such a moment, “Lord, save me!”
The point
An orphaned Rotterdam child, traumatized by bombing, learned to run to his foster parents' arms instead of cellars. Spiritually, cry "Lord, save me!" to Jesus.
