A New York Gang Member

Early one morning, a gang member went and rapped on his brother’s door. Upon opening the door, the surprised brother asked, “What is the matter?” His countenance gave witness that his gang member brother was greatly stirred by something. “What’s the matter?”

“Louis, Louis, I had a strange dream. While asleep, I thought I was awake,” he said.

He saw a bright light flooding the window. Fearing that the police were searching for him, he crouched down and slowly approached the window. To his surprise, the light was not coming from police floodlights on the ground, but rather from the heavens, for in the sky were myriads of bright shining beings.

In the midst there seemed to appear the form of One sitting on a throne. “I saw God,” he declared, “I saw God.”

“What happened?” asked his brother. “Fearful that God was coming, and that I was not ready, I ran down the steps into the street. Buildings swayed and trains fell from the elevated tracks. Everything was in commotion.

I began to yell out Gene’s name (an older brother who was a Christian). I kept running, but there was nowhere to hide.

Then I woke up and found myself drenched in sweat. Louis, what does this mean?”
