Historical Account★★★★In the book of Esther, King Xerxes is unable to sleep one night and asks for a book to be read to him. The story recounts how Mordecai had saved the king’s life by exposing an assassination plot. Just as Haman arrives at court to ask for Mordecai’s execution, the king inquires about honoring someone. Haman, unaware that it is Mordecai he will honor, suggests a grand ceremony. This leads to Haman leading Mordecai through the city on horseback, reversing the intended fate.
