Afraid to Sleep

A visiting pastor was invited by a doctor friend to go with him on a visit. “Since you are going with me, I would like you to present the study to my client,” suggested the doctor. “On what?” responded the pastor. “I’ll let the Lord lead you,” replied the physician.

When they arrived at the house, it was obvious that this family was financially comfortable. When they entered into the home, there was quite a spread prepared for them.

The husband invited them to the table, and after the repast, they were led to the living room. After a few words, the doctor announced that his visiting friend would be leading out in the study.

The pastor still pondering with what subject he should begin, started into the Scriptures. It wasn’t long before they were deep into the subject of the whereabouts of the dead.

As the topic continued to nearly the conclusion, the lady of the house began crying. “How did you know?” she questioned.

“How did I know about what?” questioned the pastor. “Did you tell him?” she questioned, as she stared at the doctor.

“No,” he said, “I told him that he would have to let the Lord lead him.” “Then how did you know?” she again asked the pastor.

“I didn’t know, but God did,” he declared. “I have been living in torment of death all of my life. I can’t sleep unless the lights are turned on. Then oftentimes while sleeping, I have terrifying nightmares that I am dying.

I awake drenched in sweat. I have been so terrified that I fear to go to sleep,” the women revealed.

“Oh how thrilling to know the truth! At last I can sleep in peace!” And yes, two days later she joyfully announced to the doctor and pastor, “I have had such wonderful sleep for the last two days.”
