The Sunset Clouds

Illustration 4. I was sitting on our porch soon after the sun had dropped behind the horizon.

There were only a few scattered clouds in the sky. In fact you would scarcely deem them worthy of the name of clouds. -They were more like a thin white scum on the surface of the sky. In a few minutes the light of the sun transformed these few clouds into a beautiful pink. I began to contrast this with the sunset of the previous evening and tonight’s did not appeal to me as being much of a sunset.

I recalled the remarkable beauty of the evening before and so thought little of the one that was before my eyes. But I said to myself, “Forget last night and get all the beauty there is in this one.”

And I did. I opened my life to the inspiration that comes from beauty in a sunset. 38 THE ILLUSTRATION Is not this the principle that we should apply day by day? Some days God sends us a glorious, golden spiritual sunset.

Life seems very beautiful, but on other days there may be only a little tinge of the beau- tiful. In contrasting the two we get discontented and desire the greater to the extent of losing all the blessing from the present gift of the Father. Let us get all the blessing there is in each day.
