Why didn't God immediately destroy Lucifer?
IllustrationAnalogyWhen Lucifer first sinned, why didn’t God just immediately destroy him? Wouldn’t it have saved the Lord and the universe from a lot of unnecessary pain? It sounds like a logical plan if you are manufacturing parts for a car and something goes wrong. But God isn’t dealing with engines or tires.
God is dealing with hearts. If the Lord had simply squashed Satan from the get go, people would serve God out of fear, not love. That’s hardly the basis of a happy relationship. In order to allow Satan to prove his claims that God is unfair, the Lord allowed the devil to show his colors and give people the freedom to choose.
Many walk away, but some decide to turn around and come home to a loving Father who is not at all like the enemy has made him out to be.
The point
A brief theological answer to why God didn't simply destroy Lucifer at his first sin: God deals in relationships and freedom, not manufactured parts, and even now some who wander eventually choose to come home to a loving Father.
