Illustration★★★★The Costa Concordia was a cruise ship that wrecked off the coast of a small Italian island named Isola del Giglio. About as long as three football fields, the ship hit a submerged rock, which tore a 160 foot gash in the hull. The Costa Concordia began taking on water, and eventually tipped on its side and partially sank. Like the Ti- tanic, it wasn’t supposed to sink after such an incident.
The passengers were seated to eat supper and were enjoying the moment, totally unaware of the danger. Sadly, some lives may have been lost because no one had told the passengers what to do if a crisis occurred. The mandatory evacuation drill was not scheduled to be given until the day after the crash.
Also, once the crash occurred, the crew spent the first hour reassuring the passengers that it was a minor electrical problem and no one was in danger—peace and safety—when in fact the ship was sinking.
