Ruth's Commitment

Now Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, let me now go to the field and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I will find grace. And she went out and gleaned in the fields until evening. Then she beat out what she had gleaned, and it was about an ephah of barley.

And Ruth took the food and gave it to her mother-in-law; then she said, “Don’t worry about me because I will do whatever you tell me.”

Naomi said, “My daughter, go with your sister-in-law. May the Lord deal kindly with you as you have dealt with the dead and with me. The Lord grant that you may find rest in the home of another husband!”

But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.

Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me.”
