Ignorant Atheism
IllustrationStory★★★★A young French college student was traveling home by train. Seated opposite him was an elderly man whom the student recognized to be a religious person. The youth struck up a conversation and told the man that it was silly to believe in God and prayer. He stated that he had studied science and that all things came from nature and that there was no God. The old man listened but did not comment. The young man asked his name and address so that he could send him some printed materials showing that there is no God.
The old man put his hand into his coat pocket ant took out a card with his name and address on it. The young man was surprised and embarrassed when he read what was printed on the card: “Louis Pasteur, Professor of Science.” He realized that this was the famous Dr. Pasteur who had made important discoveries concerning bacteria. Dr. Pasteur had been responsible for helping doctors find cures for many diseases.

A young atheist student, confidently arguing that science disproves God, discovers the man opposite him is Louis Pasteur—and realizes his ignorant presumption.
