Lesson: Counterfeits in Life

Just like with money, there are things and people in life that can look real but aren’t. The fake money looks nice, but it’s useless. Similarly, some people may look like true followers of Jesus but aren’t truly living for Him. These people are like the counterfeit money— they might look good on the outside, but they don’t have real value. Biblical Connection: Jesus had twelve disciples, and they were true learners and followers of Him. But there were also people who pretended to be His followers just to look good in front of others. Jesus warned us about such people. He said in Matthew 7:15, “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.”

Object Lesson: Hold up both the fake $100 bill and the real $10 bill. “This fake $100 bill is like someone pretending to be a good Christian. It looks impressive, but it’s not real.” “This real $10 bill is like a true follower of Jesus. It might seem less impressive, but it has real value.” Interactive Moment: Let’s all be detectives! How can we tell the difference between a real and a fake Christian? (Wait for responses: actions, honesty, kindness, love for Jesus.) Yes, true Christians show their love for Jesus through their actions, honesty, and kindness. They don’t just pretend when others are watching. They live for Jesus all the time! Conclusion: Remember, Jesus can see our hearts. He knows who is truly following Him and who is just pretending. Let’s make sure we are like the real $10 bill, valuable and true, not like the fake $100 bill, just pretending. Does Jesus want you to be fake or real? Counterfeit or true?
