A New Walk Brings New Wonders

Lee Roberson relates this story of God’s wonders in a church when the people “sanctified themselves” and got right with God and each other: Some years ago I conducted a revival in a southern town. The first four or five nights very little happened. The crowds were small. Interest was light.

I detected that something was wrong in the church. There were some men who were not right in their attitude toward the pastor. They had been fighting his ministry. They had tried to defeat him in his work of soul-winning.

It was also evident that the pastor’s heart had been somewhat affected by this wrong re- lationship. One day, more or less by accident, I saw one of the four men involved in the difficulty.

The pastor’s remarks about him were not too kind, and I detected that here was the reason for the slowness of the revival. And then there came a service; when I gave a message, much as I am speaking this morning, then God began working.

When the in- vitation was given, the four men walked down the aisle. All of them were in tears. They knelt at the front of the church and in a moment, when I saw what was happening, I told the pastor I thought it would be a fine thing if he would kneel with them.

He did so and in a few moments they were all standing on their feet with their arms around one another. They had confessed their sins unto the Lord and things had been made right. They had also confessed their difficulties one to another. Did revival come?

Suffice it to say that over 240 people were con- verted in less than a week’s time, in a single church meeting. Most of them were received into the church and were baptized before the closing of the meeting.

The revival was so sweeping that crowds came until the police had to close the doors to keep people out.
