Illustration★★★★When the “Holy Staircase” in Rome was reopened after being renovated for a year, the news media reported on the event. What they said was interesting. One very large and respected news organization said that they “are the same steps Jesus climbed before being tried by the Roman governor and sentenced to crucifixion. ” Of course they are not.
That’s a legend, a myth. Even the Catholic Church officially says at the staircase itself, “Whatever the origin of the stairs, they serve as a reminder of …” and so on. But a mis-truth is told, then reported, so that people who read it, believe without question.
How often is that true in life! And how often is that true spiritually. Mis-truths get stated again and again, and before long, they’re taken as true.
