There Is Nothing Out There

Physically sick, and worn with the dog-eat-dog life on Broadway in New York City, Rick and his model girlfriend were walking down a Manhattan street. Though deep in conversation about the disappointments and frustration of show business, Rick’s eye noticed a colorful flyer on the edge of the sidewalk. Picking it up, he was impressed with the topics. It was a Bible prophecy seminar.

Not having anything in particular to do that evening, they decided to “check it out.” Rick was gripped by the passionate presentations made by a former gang member—now turned preacher. As Rick listened, thoughts came back of a forgotten time when, as a child, he sang in church.

Memories of a childlike faith in God revived. Rick could not remember the last time he prayed. Things from the Scriptures he had been taught began to resurface. Heartsick for the years he wasted, and sensing the beckoning of a voice he had long ago stifled, Rick desired to return to the God of his father.

When the invitation was made to forsake all and follow the Lord, Rick said to himself, “There is nothing out there.” Rising to his feet, he began his journey back home. By his side walked the tear-stained model. Together they both decided to turn their lives over to Christ and live for Him.
